  • Leaving Germany

After almost six years in Germany, I closed that chapter in 2024 and started a new one in the US.

Germany was actually my very first experience living abroad, moving there straight from my home country, Indonesia. It was a huge change, but one that taught me so much.

One big lesson I took from my time there? Always be prepared. If you’ve ever dealt with German bureaucracy, you know what I mean — paperwork, visas, schools for our son, and later on, all the contract cancellations before moving (apartment, health insurance, you name it). Having the right info ahead of time saved me so much stress, and it’s a habit that’s stuck with me.

I’ll miss Germany’s nature and how easy it was to get around. Weekend trips, long walks, train rides — the little things that made life so enjoyable.

Now I’m on a new adventure in the US. I’ve been here almost two years, so the “new chapter excitement” has settled, but I’m enjoying life and still learning new things every day.

Have you ever made a big move like this? I’d love to hear your story!
